The World's Largest CSP Plant

This Sunday, Masdar, along with its partners Total and Abengoa, launched the world's largest concentrated solar power (CSP) project. Called Shams 1, the power plant covers an area of 2.5 km² -- about 285 soccer fields -- and powers about 20,000 homes. Located in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, Shams 1 is a major achievement for clean energy in the Middle East.

Puralytics, the Portland-based developer of photochemical water purification products using light-activated nanotechnology, announced that its SolarBag 3-liter water purifier is the first non-powered, non-chemical system to ever exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirements for water purification products.

3TIER Partners with Bloomberg to Develop Wind Valuation Tool

Last month, Bloomberg New Energy Finance and 3TIER – Seattle's renewable energy cleantech company – launched a real-time, interactive wind asset valuation tool geared toward renewable energy investors. The tool – called Wind Asset Valuation Tool (WVAL) – enables investors to assess and value more than 3,400 wind projects around the world, using up-to-date tariff, turbine and wind resource data, according to the press release.

Pacific Northwest’s Puralytics Wins National Cleantech Open

The Cleantech Open (www.cleantechopen.com), the world’s largest cleantech business competition, announced that Oregon-based Puralytics, a developer of photochemical water purification products, has been awarded the competition’s national prize. At the National Awards Gala and Expo in San Jose last night, Puralytics was named the national winner from a talented pool of 17 other cleantech startup teams from across the United States and will receive the national prize of $250,000 - comprised of $100,000 cash and $150,000 in-kind startup services. Earlier this year, the company was selected as one of three Pacific Northwest region finalists, which awarded them a $40,000 regional prize of cash and services and ensured their spot in the national final.
